The Emergency Alert System provides the President, state governors, and local authorities with a communications capability to address the public during emergencies. All broadcast stations, cable systems, and other participating entities must install and maintain EAS equipment.
Participating entities must be capable of receiving and transmitting emergency alerts within a specified time period. The system integrates with the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) service for mobile devices.
