Eligible employees of covered employers are entitled to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave per year for specified family and medical reasons including birth or adoption of a child, care of a spouse, child, or parent with a serious health condition, or the employee's own serious health condition.
Employers must maintain the employee's group health insurance during leave. Upon return, the employee must be restored to the same or an equivalent position. Employers with 50 or more employees within 75 miles are covered.
