Full Text
The SSA uses a five-step sequential evaluation process to determine disability. Step 1 considers whether the claimant is engaged in substantial gainful activity. Step 2 evaluates whether the claimant has a severe impairment. Step 3 determines if the impairment meets or equals a listing. Step 4 assesses whether the claimant can perform past relevant work. Step 5 considers whether the claimant can perform other work.
The claimant must demonstrate that a medically determinable physical or mental impairment prevents substantial gainful activity and is expected to last at least 12 months or result in death. The evaluation considers medical evidence, functional limitations, age, education, and work experience.
