The federal minimum wage must be paid to all covered non-exempt employees for all hours worked. The current federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. Tipped employees may be paid a direct cash wage of $2.13 per hour if tips bring total compensation to at least the minimum wage.
Employers may take credits toward the minimum wage for reasonable costs of furnishing employees with board, lodging, or other facilities customarily furnished. Unauthorized deductions that reduce pay below minimum wage are prohibited.
