ADA Amendments Act broadened the definition of disability, overturning restrictive Supreme Court interpretations.
Disability means a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities of such individual.
The definition of disability shall be construed broadly. Major life activities include major bodily functions. Mitigating measures other than ordinary eyeglasses shall not be considered when determining whether an impairment substantially limits a major life activity.
DOJ updated Title III regulations to establish specific standards for accessible design in new construction.
Public accommodations shall be accessible to individuals with disabilities to the extent readily achievable.
Public accommodations shall comply with the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design, which update specifications for accessible routes, toilet rooms, sales and service counters, and swimming pools in new construction and alterations.
