Previous

The surveillance and investigation provisions of the Act shall sunset on December 31, 2005.

Amended

Fourteen provisions are made permanent, including roving wiretaps and access to business records. Recipients of Section 215 orders may challenge them in court and gag orders may be reviewed after one year.

Amended

Bulk collection of domestic telephone metadata by the NSA is prohibited. The government must use specific selection terms when requesting records, and a panel of amici curiae is established to advise the FISA court on privacy and civil liberties matters.
